There are four types of personal insurance cover; they are:

Life Cover - Life Insurance, which pays a lump sum to the beneficiary if the insured dies or (usually) has a terminal illness.

Total & Permanent Disability Cover - Also called TPD Insurance, which pays a lump sum if the insured is diagnosed as never being able to work again.

Income Protection Cover - Sometimes called Disability insurance, or Salary continuance insurance, pays a regular income while the insured is unable to work due to accident or illness.

Trauma Cover - Also known as Specific Illness cover, this pays a lump sum upon diagnosis of a range of illnesses, the most common being cancer, heart disease and stroke.
